Ogham Stones

Ogham was the ancient alphabet of the Celts. It is thought to have been invented in the southern Ireland, although examples have also been found in Wales and Cornwall. The ogham alphabet consists of a series of markings cut into the edges of standing stones. The letters are made of either straight or slanting lines. Each mark represents a letter of the ancient Irish alphabet. There are about 300 ogham stones in Ireland mainly in the south and south-west of the country.

Did you notice numbers beside the students in the class photo from Scoil Eoin? The students have written some information about themselves on the eTwinning site. Your task is the read their descriptions and then try to locate the position of the students in the picture. It will be a challenge for you as the students are wearing their school uniform.

Dublin Ireland

Dia daoibh  is Irish for God be with you friends. Irish is a Celtic language that is still spoken in some parts of the West of Ireland.

We are the Fifth class students in Scoil Eoin. There are 17 students in our class 10 girls and 7 boys. Our teacher's name is Ms. Purcell. Our school is located in Kilbarrack a suburb of the city of Dublin. Our school is located in a beautiful area. We are only 700 metres from the sea front and Dublin Bay.
